Fixing Call Delays and Dead Air Pickups

Fixing Call Delays and Dead Air Pickups

Mojo Dialer is built for speed, leveraging a direct connection to a Tier 1 carrier switch. This ensures superior call quality and minimizes delays, unlike VoIP-based systems. However, user-side factors can sometimes introduce call delays or dead air. Understanding these factors and making simple adjustments can drastically improve call performance.

Common Causes of Call Delays & Fixes

1. WiFi Calling on Mobile Phones

WiFi calling routes voice data through an internet connection, causing slight but noticeable latency when using Mojo Dialer. While this delay is often negligible on standard calls, it becomes more apparent during rapid dialing sessions.

Fix:

  • Disable WiFi calling in your phone settings.

  • Use a strong, stable cellular connection to maintain real-time conversations.

2. Using LTE/VoLTE calling on Cellular Phones

LTE or VoLTE calls are using data to pass voice data, just like with WiFi calling. The difference is instead of wifi, you are using the data connection from the cell network. There are many factors that can impact this connection, all of which will give you less than satisfactory call quality, especially when relying on it for laser fast connections. While not all carriers allow for this to be turned off in your mobile phone settings, it is certainly worth looking to see if you can.

2. Using VoIP Phones

VoIP services vary greatly in quality. Low-cost providers and soft-phones often experience inconsistent network performance, leading to unpredictable delays. Additionally, network congestion can further impact voice transmission speeds, especially in offices with heavy internet use.

Fix:

  • Select a high-quality VoIP provider known for low-latency service.

  • Use a wired internet connection instead of WiFi for better stability.

  • Avoid using cheap or softphone VoIP solutions for Mojo dialing.

  • Contact your network manager and insist that your VoIP connection be set to 'Voice Priority'. This will prioritize voice packets on the network.

Tip: International ISAs may experience higher latency due to varying internet infrastructure. Ensuring a strong and stable connection is crucial for seamless communication.

3. Live Answer Beep Setting Enabled

The Live Answer Beep feature plays a beep before audio is transmitted, signaling a live answer. While helpful, it introduces a short delay that can affect first-hello response times.

Fix:

  • If immediate audio is preferred, disable Live Answer Beep in Mojo settings.

  • Weigh the benefits of Live Answer Beep against the potential delay in conversations.

Summary

For the best dialing experience, turn off WiFi calling, choose a reliable VoIP provider or use a direct cellular connection, and disable Live Beep if instant audio is a priority. These quick adjustments will help eliminate delays and improve call efficiency. If issues persist, our support team is available to assist.
